Multi-hazard Emergency, Preparedness and Response Plan disseminated in districts
In the wake of several public health events that have unfolded in the recent past and, following the key findings of the WHO coordinated Joint External Evaluation (JEE) of 2017, the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and WHO conducted a dissemination meeting of the Zambia Multi-hazard Emergency, Preparedness and Response Plan.
To counter some of the findings from the JEE of 2017, policymakers, and public health emergency experts have recognized the need for the country to have a robust and adaptable Multi-Hazard Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan and contingency plan.
From 10 to 14 July, multi sector health stakeholders including the Zambia Police, town councils and community representatives convened in districts of Chipata, Choma, Lusaka, Ndola and Solwezi gathered to witness the dissemination of the multisectoral all hazard emergency response plan that will lead to reduction of mortality, morbidity and disability arising from various hazards.
The plan has been developed to ensure effective coordination of multi sectoral response to the public health emergencies, provide a clear guidance on timely notification, detection, rapid risk assessment and grading of all health events at national, provincial, district and community levels.
